Want to Save on a Local Getaway? These Hotels All Give Discounts to Californian Residents

Before I book a hotel for a staycation or local getaway, there’s one thing I always do: check to see if the hotel I’m booking offers discounts to local residents. It’s a habit I picked up after I began working for a travel magazine and started to hear about some great hotels running specials for people who live nearby.

Case in point: all of the hotels below offer a percentage off for California residents (and sometimes those from neighboring Nevada). These discounts usually range from 15–20%, though some go as high as 30%, depending on availability. Typically, you’ll need to book directly through the hotel’s website and can’t combine it with other offers.

To see if a hotel not on this list offers a resident discount, check the hotel’s website for an “Offers” or “Specials” section and book directly from there.

While it’s always worth checking for a resident discount, I’ve sometimes found that other promotions—like “stay longer, save more” deals—can result in a better rate. Still, if no other offers are available, a resident discount can be a great way to save on your stay.
