There’s a Playful, New Hotel in Sunnyvale—And It’s Perfect for a Bay Area Staycation

When I learned of the new Treehouse Hotel opening in Sunnyvale earlier this year,—the first U.S. property to join the Treehouse family—I initially wrote it off as a hotel for business travelers. But I was so wrong. While yes, it is in the heart of Silicon Valley and close to several major tech offices, I was pleasantly surprised during a summer staycation from San Francisco, where I checked in as a leisure traveler. Here’s what it was like.
OVERVIEW
A fun escape in the middle of Silicon Valley, Treehouse Hotel delights with chef-driven dining, a dreamy pool scene, and rooms that are anything but boring.

Location
Located in Sunnyvale, Treehouse Silicon Valley is right off the 101 and an easy 13-minute drive from San José Mineta International Airport, making it incredibly convenient to reach. Immediately surrounding the property are many offices, though Sunnyvale’s main business corridor and the waterside Bay Trail are within biking distance (yes the hotel has bikes) or a short drive.
However, thanks to the amenities onsite, I didn’t mind that I wasn’t all that close to shops, restaurants, and nightlife but I did very much appreciate how easy it was to get to the hotel

The spacious, playfully designed rooms and suites at Treehouse might be my favorite part of this place. Treehouse Silicon Valley currently has 111 rooms and suites, with plans to expand. Even their smallest rooms start at a generous 388 to 417 square feet, and many have cute little balconies that are perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee.
I stayed in a King Perch, which had a spacious indoor lounge area, balcony, and large comfy bed. The room also came with plush bathrobes and eco-friendly bath amenities. But what really makes these rooms shine is the design. There are lots of fun, small touches that nod to the treehouse theme—coffee table books about birds, little birdhouses by the door to each room, woodsy wallpaper in the bathrooms—as well as an overall colorful, whimsical vibe.

The main reason why I’d recommend this hotel for a staycation? Its impressive lineup of activities and social spaces. I arrived right at check-in and didn’t leave until check-out the next morning—and that’s even after extending my check-out by an hour.
In the afternoons, don’t miss the laid-back beer garden, which often has live music on weekends. You can also order wood-fired pizza to enjoy with your pint. However, I opted to dine at their restaurant, Valley Goat, helmed by James Beard Award–winning chef Stephanie Izard. The menu is bold, flavorful, creative, and designed for sharing. I especially loved the wood-fired eggplant.
Then, there’s the lovely pool area. While it’s hard not to notice the highway just behind the dreamy cabanas and green umbrellas shading lounge chairs, I quickly forgot all about it once I hopped in the pool and hopped in one of their oversized inner tubes. Overall, the pool area—complete with a hot tub—felt sunny, relaxed, and like the kind of place you could spend an entire afternoon.
For the moments in between, the property offers plenty of other places to unwind, including a morning café, a spacious outdoor patio, and a large, modern fitness center.
Events and day passes
Room patio
Treehouse Hotel Silicon Valley isn’t just for overnight guests—they also offer day passes to the pool and host a full calendar of events, from lawn games at the beer garden to seasonal farmstand pop-ups, that are open to the community. But with California residents getting up to 40% off their stays (just use code LOCALP), why not make it an overnight?
Overall and price

As with all hotels, the price varies based on seasonality and demand but you can expect to pay around $500-$600 per night for one of their standard rooms. That said, they have some pretty great offers and packages and if you take advantage of one of those, you could be looking at closer to $300 per night.
Given the size and additional amenities in the rooms (free coffee, fast wifi, cozy robes) as well as how much there is to do on site, I think it’s worth it. Overall, it’s a fun and playful place to spend a day (or two) and enjoy some South Bay sunshine and I’ll definitely back for another staycation soon.
