I’ll be honest—I didn’t know much about Poetry Inn before my recent stay. And it’s not the kind of place I typically book for myself. With rates starting at $1,250/night, it falls firmly in “special occasion splurge” territory. This was a hosted stay, and I don’t take that for granted—especially since I don’t often get to experience hotels in this price range outside of work. Throughout my stay, I kept thinking about who this hotel is best for. On one hand, I know this is a big price tag for many of my friends. On the other, I’m a travel advisor with clients with $2,000 / night hotel budgets. But why would either pick Poetry Inn over Napa’s other luxury choices? In my opinion, it comes down to how private and high-touch it is—I can’t think of another property in the area that matches Poetry on this regard. With just five suites, it feels more like staying in someone’s luxurious home than a big Napa resort. The size allows staff to be very attentive and hands-on—helping with reservations, making sunset cocktails for us, and creating a sense of effortlessness that you really start to experience at a certain caliber of hotel. It’s not quirky or design-forward like The Madrona, but it’s tasteful, calm, and deeply comfortable. I’m still thinking about that home-cooked breakfast and the shower with valley views—and feel incredibly lucky to have experienced it, even if just for one night.
